Superintendent’s Goals 2008-09
Dear Parents,
As part of the goal setting process administrative initiatives are discussed annually with all school constituencies in order to
generate priorities for the coming school year.
As superintendent of
schools these interactions along with the School Committee's
evaluation provides input to establish systemwide goals.
This
process was completed at the school committee meeting Tuesday October
28, 2008
and I have posted my goals for the 2008-09 school year.
I can be reached by phone or email so never hesitate to contact me if
you have questions or concerns.

Message from the Superintendent
The Nahant Public Schools provide a comprehensive education for students in grades K - 12 with a variety of programs and funding sources. The once privately run Periwinkle Preschool program, housed in the Johnson School, began its transition into the Nahant School District in September 2007 as an Integrated preschool and remains as a self-funded, tuition based program for children ages 3-5. Grades kindergarten through six reside in a newly renovated Johnson Elementary School while students in grades 7-12 attend Swampscott Middle and High Schools on a tuition basis. This contract will continue through the
2012-2013 school year and may be extended for another five years with mutual agreement. Extended day and summer opportunities are available for elementary students.
Please feel free to call or schedule a visit to the Johnson School should you have questions following your tour of our website.

Strategic Plan Update !!
As we develop a strategic plan for the Johnson School the Nahant School Committee
is looking for interested members of the community and school staff to volunteer for membership on this advisory committee.
The Johnson School Council reviewed the draft of the Mission Statement and Core values at their meeting on September 17th, school staff also reviewed the draft at their meeting on October 7th. The final draftversion was presented to School Committee at their meeting on October 14th.
The next step is to establish a committee that will assist the School Committee in the development of this Strategic Plan. Interested community members and school staff should email me, jlisi@johnsonschool.org Once the committee is formed this effort will span one year and require several meetings to complete .

New Traffic Pattern
Dear Parents,Most traffic and parking patterns seem to be working well. This is happening without the aid of signs that have yet to be installed and I want to thank everyone for cooperating. We still have some challenges, organizing parking and flow in front of the building during morning drop-off and the best way to exit both the primary side of the building (PreK-2) and the intermediate side (3-6) during pick-up.
I'd like to establish a study committee, preferably made up of PreK - Grade 6 representation. The start date for this committee is Tuesday September 30th. Please let me know of your interest and what would be your preferred time, mornings 8:15 AM or evenings 7PM, and the grade level you would represent.
Email address jlisi@johnsonschool.org
Sincerely,Joseph F. Lisi, Ed. D.
Superintendent of Schools

Please note our changed traffic pattern.
Entrance to the school will be on Castle Road at the first entrance traveling from Nahant Road. Drop off for Kindergarten through Second Grade will be at Door 1 on the Castle Road side of the school driveway. Parents dropping off students in Grade 3-6 will enter at Castle Road and proceed around the school and drop off students at the new main entrance near the cafeteria. Parents wishing to escort their child into school should park in the visitors’ parking lot on the Castle Road side of the building. Cars should not park in the drop area. Once a student has exited the vehicle, the vehicle needs to pull away and leave the area to avoid traffic jams.
